Mexico look to improve in match against China

Mexico's coach Sergio Hernandez and Captain Carlos Guerra both hope of a victory against China

Gdansk, Poland, September 2, 2014 - Mexico had a day off but not a rest day at the Men’s World Championship on Tuesday.

As Captain Carlos Guerra pointed out there are still many things to correct and to focus on for them to get better results in the competition following the defeat to the hands of Bulgaria in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-21) on Monday.

“It was a tough match for us even though we were able to keep up the same level of the opponent in some moments until the second technical time-outs,” Guerra said. “From that point on, Bulgaria dictated the pace until the end.”

“We have many things to correct and a lot of things to focus on before the match against China,” Guerra added.

The starting team coached by Sergio Hernandez consisted of Daniel Vargas, Jorge Quinones, Pedro Rangel, Samuel Córdova, Tomas Aguilera, Guerra and Jesus Rangel as libero.

“I would like to underline that our biggest fault in the match against Bulgaria was our lack of concentration and our lack of patient,” Hernandez said.

“These two factors were not there and didn’t allow us to perform at the top of our level even though in the third set we were able to show our true level. Unfortunately we had committed many mistakes,” Hernandez added.

“We are determined to find better ways to play in the subsequent matches and we have to figure out a way to win against China, since the match is crucial for both sides,” Hernandez concluded.

Mexico is taking part in the men’s world championship for a fifth time. Four years ago in Italy, the team was coached by Jorge Azair. Previously they participated in three championships in a row from 1974 to 1982.
