Determined USA grab great win over Cuba to qualify
The United States skipped past Cuba in straight sets to pip Germany for the final quarterfinal qualification spot in Pool B.

The win was the only result that could offer the US a birth in the quarterfinals ahead of Germany as they had a higher set ratio.

The United States appeared more determined right from the first set. Guided by the incredible performance of Logan TOM, the United States took charge of the set and sailed to a 25-22 victory.

Things proved to be even easier in the second set for the US team. They took the early lead thanks to efficient spiking by TOM and Heather BOWN and the final 25-12 score came as no surprise.

Improved USA blocking in the third set made the situation more difficult for the Cubans. Captain Yumilka RUIZ LUACES was unable to finish the attacks for Cuba and USA sealed the deciding victory, 25-19, despite a late Cuban rally.

TOM was the star for the US with 19 points, while RUIZ LUACES, Liana MESA LUACES, and Zoila BARROS FERNANDEZ had nine points each for Cuba.
