China sweep Russia to top Pool B
China sail to a surprisingly easy straight-sets win over Russia to confirm their position as winners of Pool B.

Cuba, who play the United States in today's last match can draw level with China on points but their set ratio is inferior. Russia, depending on Cuba's result, will finish second or third.

The Chinese team appeared determined to prove once again their quality right from the first set. Guided by Hao YANG, Lina WANG and Ping ZHANG China took charge of the set, built a margin and never fell behind, they finally won by 25-15.

The main offensive weapons of Russia kept on struggling without success. In the first two sets, Lioubov SHASHKOVA and Ekaterina GAMOVA had together only 14 out of 41 spikes. On the other side, China's Yanan LIU had 9/11 spikes and YANG 6/13. The final 25-16 in the second set did not come as surprise.

But when GAMOVA improved her efficiency (8/12 successful spikes in the third set), Russia got into the game. The third set was the only one to live up to the pre-match expectation. However, once again China was the winner thanks to two great spikes by YANG that sealed the 28-26 victory.

YANG, LIU and Ping ZHANG were the high scorers for the winners with 16, 13, 11 points respectively, while GAMOVA top scored for Russia with 18 points.
