Korean win guarantees quarterfinal spot
World number nine Korea collected their third win of the Preliminary Round after winning the Asian battle against Japan to secure the third quarterfinal spot on Friday.

The favourites needed the win to confirm their continuation in the tournament while Japan now need to beat Kenya on Sunday to ensure they still have a chance of a ticket to the next phase.

The first set went point-by-point until the moment Kwang Hee CHOI and Dae Young JUNG started to win crucial points for Korea. The end of the first set found Korea celebrating with a four point margin.

The scenario in the second set was similar as once again Korea built a comfortable lead. However, this time Japan found some resolve and thanks to Miki SASAKI, Kana OYAMA and Tomoko YOSHIHARA they managed to fight back to be the first team to serve for set-point at 24-21. But Korea was to have the last word. A magnificent run of five successive points gave Korea the set in surreal circumstances.

That result really took the stuffing out of Japan so during the third set Korea picked up another comfortable lead and held it right to the end.

Min Jung KU, JUNG, So Yun CHANG and CHOI were the offensive leaders for Korea with 15, 14, 12 and 10 points respectively while SASAKI (13 points), OYAMA (13) and YOSHIHARA (10) reached double figures for Japan.
