Devastating display from China too much for Dominican Republic
World number three China took just one hour and eight minutes to easily sweep past the Dominican Republic in straight sets in the Pool B encounter at the Peace and Friendship Stadium here Monday.

The World Cup holders were dominant right from the beginning and through the lethal spikes of Yanan LIU, they proved too strong for the Central Americans who are ranked 13th in the world. It only took 22 minutes for China to go one set up.

Things did not change in the second set with the Dominican Republic unable to contend with China's pace while mistakes crept into their own game with Milagros CABRAL DELA CRUZ and Kenia MORETA PEREZ the main culprits in being unable to complete a numbering of relatively easy scoring opportunities.

Having won the first two sets by margins of five points and nine, the third set was a mirror image of the second, with China powering to a 25-16 win on the back of some wonderful spiking from LIU to wrap up their second victory in as many games.

LIU was the leading scorer for China with 15 points, while CABRAL DELA CRUZ reached doubled figures for the Dominican Republic with 12 points.

China's next match of the Olympic Volleyball tournament is against Cuba on Wednesday at 14:00 while the Dominican Republic play the USA at 09:00 earlier in the day.
