Italian proves quality over Korea
An unstoppable Italian team celebrated its first victory in Pool A of the Athens Olympic Volleyball tournament, beating Korea in straight sets (3-0: 25-17, 25-13, 25-19) at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Italy is one of the favorites for a place on the podium. The quality and the depth of their squad visible during the match.
Korea, on the other hand, will have to search in the other matches, for the wins they need to earn a place in the quarterfinals.

The Italians made it clear from the first set they weren't going to do any favors for the Koreans. The 25-17 score line in the first 21 minutes speaks volumes about the difference in quality, though the Korean team had some good moments.

Korea won the first point in the second set, but Italy answered with four straight points (4-1). In the next Korean point, Italy answered back again with 9 points in a row thanks to the superb serving on Nadia CENTONI (ITA) (4 aces in total) and excellent defensive teamwork (13-2). That story was in fact repeating during the second set that finally ended 25-13 for the Italians in 20 minutes.

As much as the Koreans tried, the situation didn't change in the third set and the final 25-19 for Italy came aw an easy predictable result.

CENTONI, Simona RINIERI DENNIS (ITA) and Manuela LEGGERI (ITA) top scored with 20, 14 and 10 points respectively, while for the Koreans KU min Jung was the best scorer with 9 points.
