Russia shows supremacy with straight-sets victory
Russia sailed to an easy straight-sets victory (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) over Dominician Republic in Pool A at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Russia, the clear pre-match favorite, proved they were the 'boss' during the match and sent a message to the other Olympic title challengers that they are in great shape.

Russia's supremacy was clear from the first set. Guided by Ekaterian GAMOVA, the Russian team easily won the first set 25-17 in 20 minutes.

The second set was a copy of the first. The Russians took the lead and never relinquished it, winning 25-13, again in 20 minutes.

Dominican Republic was determined not to give Russia the pleasure of one more easy win. The third set went point-by-point for a while, but the Russians were again the winners, by 25-16 in 20 minutes.

GAMOVA was the top scorer of the match with 22 points, while Milagros CABRAL DELA CRUZ lead the Dominican Republic with 16 points.
