Women s Olympic Games 2004 - Press Conference

Press conference

U.S.A. beat Cuba 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) - duration 1:13
22-Aug, start time: 21:30, end time: 22:43 - Attendance: 7'540
City: Athens; Hall : Peace and Friendship Stadium
Luis Felipe CALDERON BIET (CUB) - head coach

"We did not perform well tonight. We know the team of the USA well; we have played against them many times in the past. We did not play well in the first set. I did not expect today's match result."

Toshiaki YOSHIDA (USA) - head coach

"I had never expected that we would win 3-0. Cuba is one of the best teams in the world, but my players played very well and with soul, which constitutes a great factor in our win. We needed this win in order to advance to the quarterfinals. I knew that this pool was a difficult one because all the teams were very strong, but when we lost to the Dominican Republic we were in a difficult position; we did not deserve that. Now, Brazil is one of the best teams; we know them and they know us. For sure, we are going to have a very tough match."

Tara CROSS BATTLE (USA) - captain

"I am very proud of my team. We played very well. It was not an easy match. We have played against Cuba many times and we know each other very well. Today, the team that won was the team that had the best execution. Tonight was our night."
