Women s Olympic Games 2004 - Press Conference

Press conference

Italy beat Greece 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) - duration 1:14
22-Aug, start time: 16:00, end time: 17:14 - Attendance: 9'392
City: Athens; Hall : Peace and Friendship Stadium
Francesca PICCININI (ITA) - wing spiker

"There could be no doubt that both teams were very good. We played as if it was the last match and we are very happy by the result."

Ioanna VLACHOU (GRE) - captain

"We always knew that Italy is a very strong team. We tried our best, but it was not good enough."

Dimitrios FLOROS (GRE) - head coach

"Congratulations to the team of Italy. As neighbours, we would like to wish them luck for their matches to come. We knew that they have a higher level of playing Volleyball compared to us. We had opportunities and we feel bitter not to have reached the quarterfinals in these Olympic Games. We could have done better, not today, but when playing against other teams like Japan."

On how near or far was the Greek team to the quarterfinals:

"Success and failure are very close. If we had won the two previous matches we would have qualified. The desire was there but we didn't make it."

Marco BONITTA (ITA) - head coach

"Congratulations to the Greek team for their performance today. It was an excellent match as far as technique and tactics are concerned. They are not accustomed to a higher level of playing Volleyball. As far as my team is concerned, we played as we had expected. We performed better. There was no doubt about the final result. We now concentrate on our next matches."

On which team they would prefer as an opponent in the next phase:

"It really does not matter. All teams who have qualified in the next phase of this tournament are very strong. We have no preference. We will have to wait, see the final results and prepare for the best."
