Women s Olympic Games 2004 - Press Conference

Press conference

Cuba beat Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) - duration 1:17
20-Aug, start time: 11:00, end time: 12:17 - Attendance: 2'323
City: Athens; Hall : Peace and Friendship Stadium
Francia JACKSON CABRERA (DOM) - captain

"We started well and with a good rhythm. Then China showed that it is a great team. We hope that the next match is better."

Jorge Ignacio GARBEY CASTILLO (DOM) - head coach

"We started good. Our team is very young. We are a quite new team, which is taking part in the Olympic Games for the first time."

Kun FENG (CHN) - captain

"Today we did a great job, especially in serving. In the second period we were able to control their spiking. We were very concentrated and finally won the match."

Zhonghe CHEN (CHN) - head coach

"In general, the Dominican Republic made mistakes and they were not in good playing condition. In the first period it was difficult. We had no connection between our serves and spiking. But we got better and we finally won."

On the injury of Ruirui ZHAO (No 8) and replacement, and how this affected the team:

"She was injured last March in China and after the last match here, she was injured in the same spot; that is why she only played for two minutes in the match. I do not think that she will be able to compete in these Olympic Games with the team. This is affecting us, but she is with us all the way."

On whether the team is prepared for the coming match with Cuba:

"Cuba is a very competitive team. After losing to Germany, they will be more prepared for the coming match. It is very difficult for us but we know the team well. We shall prepare to show skills and power, we have beaten them before."
