Women s Olympic Games 2004 - Press Conference

Press conference

Italy beat Japan 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) - duration 1:11
16-Aug, start time: 14:00, end time: 15:11 - Attendance: 2'800
City: Athens; Hall : Peace and Friendship Stadium
Tomoko YOSHIHARA (JPN) - captain

"I felt that we couldn't show our true potential today."

Manuela LEGGERI (ITA) - captain

"Today we had an excellent match. We played with great determination. Our blocks were superb."

On what they expect as a team from the coming match with Brazil:

"It's going to be a totally different match. We will do the best we can."

Shoichi YANAGIMOTO (JPN) - head coach

"As our team captain said previously, we could not deliver on our full potential. We realised that we were playing against a great team. The difference between the two teams was their experience. Playing against Italy is going to be a lesson for us and we will use it to become better. As for our team, we have to be more united. We will focus on improving our performance."

On whether two defeats in this tournament was what they had expected:

"I think that the best for us would be to lose in one match and win in the other. The worst defeat was the one with Brazil. This was not what we expected."

Marco BONITTA (ITA) - head coach

"I am very happy with this win. We experienced some problems in the third set but we, finally, made it."
