Netherlands win battle of the wooden spoon
With only the honour of finishing fifth in Pool B on the line the Netherlands beat Australia in straight sets to collect their second win of the tournament, leaving the Asian representatives without a victory in the tournament.

The Netherlands have drawn level with fourth-placed USA, who play Brazil in the last match of the day, but finish fifth on set ratio.

Despite the lack of something fruitful to play for the Netherlands still came out firing, proving their supremacy from the first set. Guided as usual by Richard SCHUIL and Guido GORTZEN the Dutch team sailed to a 25-22 victory.

Based on good serving - the Netherlands out served Australia with six service-aces to one- the Olympic champions of Atlanta, 1996, did not find the slightest difficulty to win the second set by 25-17.

Things proved even easier in the third set as the Netherlands only took 19 minutes to seal the third set, consequently wrapping up their second win of the tournament.

SCHUIL of the Netherlands and Zane CHRISTENSEN of Australia top scored for their respective teams with 17 and 13 points respectively.
