USA knock out Australia
With the match a must win game for winless Australia, USA ended any chance the world number 20 had of qualifying for the quarterfinals with a four set victory on Saturday.

Right from the first set Australia showed that they were desperate to record their first win of the tournament and were ready to give the Americans, who are ranked fifth in the world, a contest. Zane CHRISTENSEN was on-fire and helped Australian keep in touch in the early stages but at 17-16 in favour of USA, Clayton STANLEY, William PRIDDY and Kevin BARNETT took control to extend the Americans lead to 20-16. There was no way back for Australia as the US won by 25-19.

Australia's answer was waiting in the second set. The attacks and kill-blocks from the likes of Benjamin HARDY and Luke CAMBELL added to the efficiency of CHRISTENSEN to guide Australia to their second set-win of the tournament, 25-23 in 30 minutes.

But the US were not willing to let the Australians win another set. The beginning of the third set found the Americans in the lead mainly thanks to Ryan MILLER. USA never fell behind in the score again and sailed to an easy 25-13 win.

Australia led only briefly at the start of the fourth set. But USA produced some excellent serving to take the lead and never be threatened again. The final set score of 25-13 confirmed USA's second win of the tournament and gave them an excellent chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals, depending on the results of Russia and the Netherlands.

MILLER top scored for USA with 17 points, while Australia was led by CHRISTENSEN, who collected 20 points.
