United States hand the Netherlands first defeat
The United States sailed to their first win in the tournament beating the Netherlands in straight-sets, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18) at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Tuesday.

The first set seemed to be the perfect opportunity for the Netherlands to continue on their path of surprises. The team of Reinder NUMMERDOR was ahead 17-12 and 23-19, but the class of the United States shone through in a remarkable turnaround. Clayton STANLEY proved to be the go-to-guy for the US as he scored four points out of a 7-1 point streak that gave the American team the first set by 26-24.

American morale was now high and they were in inspirational form in the second set, giving the Netherlands little chance to make amends for the first set mistake. It only took 22 minutes for the US to go 2-0 up as the Netherlands looked for an answer to USA's power game.

STANLEY was really hot with 21 points, while William PRIDDY added 10 for the US. Richard SCHULL scored 10 points for the Netherlands but was struggling to finish the attacks (10/30 spikes). NUMMERDOR was the highest scorer for the Dutch with 11 points.

The scenario did not alter in the third set: USA were confident and that was obvious during the whole set. Once again STANLEY led the way with his powerful right arm contributing 21 points in total to hand USA the straight sets win.
