Team profile
The Bulgaria Boys’ Youth Team have not been very successful in World and European official competitions.
Their best result was in 1989 when the team won the bronze medal at the World Championship in Dubai.
At the European level, the team took part in the 2005 Final Round with a 6th place finish. In 2009, they ranked 8th. In 2011, they finished fourth and qualified for the second time in their history to the FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship.
Amongst the best players are the captain Velichkov, the opposite Ivanov and the young talent (born in 1995) middle blocker Krasimir Georgiev.
Coach profile
Miroslav Zhivkov was born in 1971 in Sofia and started his sports career as volleyball player in "Slavia". Later he played in "Minior" (Buhovo) and "Black Sea BASK" (Varna). In 1999 he was assistant coach of the girls in CSKA and then became the women's coach. In 2004 he led the team to a double tile in the Bulgarian championship, winning both the state championship and national cup. The same year he returned to his home club "Slavia", which again took the women's division. Under his leadership, "Slavia" reached twice the final of the national championship (2006 and 2007) and in 2007 grabbed the Cup of Bulgaria. In 2005 he was appointed coach of the women's national team, with whom his best result was a 9-th place finish at the European Championship in Croatia. Since fall 2007, he has been coaching the men's team of "Pirin Balkanstroy". In 2011, he won the silver medal with the club and played Bulgarian Cup final.
