Argentina tops Pool C

Argentinean libero Facundo Hehn goes for a save

In the first set, Spain jumped to a 6-3 lead causing an early time-out and then Francisco Ruiz blocked and smashed for the 8-3 margin at the mandatory pause. Teams played evened volleyball towards the second time-out and Spain still led 16-11. Argentina came back inspired by Quiroga and Castellani to tie at 20-20 starting a long exchange. Spain frustrated an Argentinean set point with spike of Francisco Ruiz to tie at 28, and then won 30-28 in its fifth chance with block by Bugallo and ace by Ruiz.

Argentina opened the second set taking a 6-2 lead. Spain scored on spikes of Borja Ruiz and Almansa to close at 7-5 but Quiroga gave his side an 8-5 advantage. Two blocks by Bugallo helped Spain to close within one point 10-9 but Argentina managed to regain the difference arriving to the second stop leading 16-13 with a block by Finoli. The Argentineans extended their distance the rest of the set and won 25-18.

In the third set, Spain took the lead 8-5 but Argentina kept climbing back behind Ribone, Ramos and Sole to capture a 14-12 advantage and arrived to the second time-out in front 16-13. After Spain tied at 19 following a block by B.Ruiz, Argentina built a three-point lead at 22-19 with spikes by Ramos and Castellani around a block by Castellani. Spain came back to tie at 22-22 with spike and block by B. Ruiz. Finally Argentina won 26-24 with block by Sole and ace of Quiroga.

Spain went in front 3-0 and led 8-4 at the pause when B.Ruiz produced the spike. At the second stop Spain was still leading but only by the slight margin of 16-15. Argentina tied with spike of Ribone and then took a 18-16 lead with attack by Finoli. Almansa and Finoli traded spikes. When Argentinean Ramos blocked Almansa the South Americans extended their lead to 22-18. Vaca produced the point 24 with a right side spike and Quiroga closed at 25-22 in their third chance.
