China Announces the final Women’s Squad for World Championships |

The Chinese team enjoys their victory |
Beijing, China, October 25, 2006 – Chen Zhonghe, Head Coach of the Chinese Women’s National Team, officially announced on Tuesday the final squad of the 12 players for the coming prestigious World Championship slated from October 31 to November 16 in Japan with six veteran players who participated both the 2002 World Championships and the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
The full list is follows as: Setters Feng Kun, Song Nina; Wing Spikers Yang Hao, Wang Yimei, Chu Jinling, Li Juan, Opposites Zhou Suhong, Li Shan, Middle Blockers Liu Yanan, Zhang Ping, Xu Yunli, Libro Zhang Na.
2003 volleyball World Cup MVP and one of the best blockers in the world Zhao Ruirui and two potential young players Ma Yunwen and Xue Ming were dropped from the team at the last moment. But Chen said the three players are still members of the Chinese Women’s National team.
Setter Feng Kun will serve as the captain of the Chinese squad while a total of six players have participated in both the 2002 World Championships and the 2004 Olympic Games. They are opposite Zhou Suhong and Li Shan, middle Blocker Liu Yanan, Wing Spiker Yang Hao, setters Feng Kun and Song Nina.
Team China’s roster also includes two players that earned gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Zhang Ping and Zhang Na with the 2004 Olympic experience have landed on the last roster. Zhang Ping got injuries after the Olympic Games and only returned to the team in September.
The list included four players who will take part in such prestigious events as the World Championships for the first time. The 19-years old Wing Spiker Wang Yimei has won high praise from Chen and now is one of the team’s key spiker while Xu Yunli with a height of 1.93 meters who joined the national team for the first time only earlier this year is one of the main wing blockers of the team with great potential.
The head coach of the Chinese team told the press that the players are in better form. The Chinese team know very well the participating teams in the Championships are all very strong but the team will certainly do their utmost to get good results, at least to enter the top four.
The Chinese. Women’s team, who will leave Beijing for Japan on October 26, has been grouped into Pool B of the World Championships first round at Sappro, Japan. Team China opens against Azerbaijan on October 31, followed by the Dominican Republic on November 1. After an off day, the Chinese team faces Mexico on November 3, Russia on November 4 and Germany on November 5.
