China coach Zhou Jianan: I think Venezuela have great potential, especially in the power of their attack, which was superb. They gave us problems because of their attacking power and I have great respect for them. We made many mistakes, especially on reception and the flow of our spikes was not so smooth. Again, that was down to our opponents. It wasn’t an easy game, but we managed to get the result, so that was good.
China captain Cui Jianjun: Our opponents today played great and gave us many problems. They really rattled us at times. But we recovered OK. Now we’re at the end of the tournament and we want to keep going to the end.
China No. 4 Zhang Chen: Our opponents were wonderful today. We need to work on some aspects of our game. There are some points I’m not happy with – some concerning the team and some of my own. We need to reflect on today’s game before tomorrow.
(Re. being top scorer): I was here for the World Cup in Tokyo last year and the head coach gave me a chance to be a starter. Maybe before I was thinking too much and I realized I needed to change something – that is not too much thinking and better execution and performance.
Venezuela captain Kervin Pinerua: Even though we lost I’m happy and we enjoyed the match. We were having fun on court. It was a good game and the experience was positive for us. It was pretty close but we couldn’t break through them. Compared to two days ago, our serves and receptions were much better today.
Venezuela coach Roberto Garcia: Congratulations to China. For us this tournament is a great experience. I’m not satisfied with the result but I am satisfied with my players; they did really well. But China’s technique and movement and speed is superior to ours. My players did what I told them to, so I was happy with that, but we’re still a young team and less experienced so the players have a tendency to overlook important points during games.
