We will go for gold soon, says Italy's Travica

The Italian side confess to mixed feeling after winning bronze

Florence, Italy, July 20, 2014 – Italian setter Dragan Travica said that Italy can win a future tournament soon, after they claimed the bronze medal in the FIVB World League finals with a straight sets victory over Iran.

"The World League is a great tournament, it is as good as the World Championships," said Travica. "We are still ambitious, and we still think we’re a great team who can win tournaments. Now we have to prove it. At least we ended our tournament with a victory. We’ll give ourselves both a pat on the shoulders for today, and a slap on the wrists for yesterday."

Filippo Lanza said today’s Italy was a transformed team compared to the one that played Brazil. "Unfortunately, we are very good at getting back on our feet after losing badly. This is a great team, our coach made the right decisions, everyone had a chance to play and I think we played a great match."

Simone Buti added: “Today we could have played even better. We wanted a gold medal because we were playing in Italy. But after yesterday, all we could do was make the best of this match."

Iranian coach Slobodan Kovac was happy with his side, but thinks they can improve. He said: “I’m proud of the team, but I am not satisfied with our last two matches. It is not easy to play at this level every day, but we have to learn. We will keep trying to get better."

Iran's libero, Farh Zarif, said that his side were satisfied with their fourth place finish. "We are not angry after losing this game. It is the best Iran has ever done at the World League. We came 9th last year in our first ever World League and now we have made the bronze medal match. That's very good for us."

"Maybe next year we can have a go at making it on to the podium. We are at a very good level, we have a great coach, a good setter, good blockers, and a great point scorer in Ghafour. Italy played very well today, we did the best that we could."
