USA coach John Speraw: It was like playing for a championship title

USA coach John Speraw and captain Sean Rooney in the Mixed Zone

Belgrade, Serbia, July 6, 2014 - USA beat Serbia 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20) to book a place in the Final Six in Florence and USA coach John Speraw said the match was like playing in a championship final.

USA coach John Speraw: It felt like a championship match to me, it was like playing for a title. We were more focused and intense than we were in Novi Sad. We came back, and even though Serbia played well tonight, we managed to win. It is a shame that Serbia cannot play for the World League title, because they are a great volleyball team. We will have more great encounters in the future, I am sure of it.

USA captain Sean Rooney: We made a few corrections to our performance from the last match. We played a lot better today, and we were more focused. We are really excited about moving to the next phase.

Serbia coach Igor Kolakovic: We knew that it would be a very difficult match. We were not focused tonight, especially in our reception and serves. Our rivals were a better team in this match and they deserved the victory.

Serbia captain Dragan Stankovic: We were equal competitors throughout the whole game, but in the end the USA had more resources than us. This was a great experience for us, and we will be back next year to try to qualify for the finals.
