Australia confident ahead of World League Group 2 semifinal

Australia's balanced attack is starting to click

Sydney, Australia, July 9, 2014 - Australia had the perfect build-up to the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 Finals, with a clean sweep against Canada in Sydney last weekend winning the second of two matches 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18).

On Saturday, Australia will take on the Netherlands at the Sydney Olympic Park Arena in the second Group 2 semifinal
at 20:10 local time - the first semifinal will see Belgium play France at 17:40. The Finals for 1st and 3rd Place will follow on Sunday and the Group 2 winners will progress to the World League Finals in Florence, Italy, from July 16-20.

Australia coach Jon Uriarte said: "It's so important that going through such a demanding process for us, the team has been challenged every day in this World League."

"The feeling that I've got a complete squad available, a team to win matches, it's an exciting picture to take towards the World Championships. I'm 100 per cent confident we can match the other teams in next week's semifinals."

Canada coach Glenn Hoag said: "Our passing was ok, but we were too irregular with our setting and getting our offence going." He added: "I needed to rest the guys, it's good for everyone to get some court time and the match didn't mean too much for us."

Australia captain Aidan Zingel said: "We made a big step in winning the second match, which is going to be crucial for next weekend. It gives us great confidence for next weekend." He added: "We made changes tonight, and everyone who came on contributed. And the fact we all enjoyed ourselves made it pretty special."

Acting Canada captain Toontje Van Lankvelt said: "I'm not happy. We started off OK, but then we had problems, our basic systems were breaking apart. Blocking and attacking, we struggled sometimes, so I'm not happy at all. It was a mental lapse, that was the problem for us."
