Milan, Italy, July 2, 2014 – A spectacular
atmosphere will surround Italy and Brazil for the last match of the Intercontinental
Round of the FIVB Volleyball World League that will take place on Sunday,
July 6, at the Mediolanum Forum of Assago in Milan.
A week before the matches, tickets were sold out to more than 12,000 people who will attend the match. Thousands of enthusiastic and passionate volleyball fans could not resist witnessing this top-level international match-up as they also sold out the first match that will take place on Thursday, July 3 at the UNIPOL Arena in Bologna.
These matches are expected to be unforgettable as the fans have launched in social media sites the campaign “Coloriamoli d’Azzurro”, which means “Let’s paint them blue”. The invitation is for all its supporters to be dressed up in blue – the colour of the Italian national team – in support of their local volleyball heroes.
More than 70 journalists, photographers and other members of the media will attend the match and will be broadcasted live on Rai Sport Italy.
The event is being held in conjunction with the much-anticipated World League Final Six to be held in Florence from July 16 to 20. The event also wishes to build up on the promotion for one of the two biggest volleyball competitions, the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, where the final round will take place in Milan from October 8 to 12. Tickets for the World Championship will be available this week, with special offers and discounts given to those who have bought tickets for the World League.
Italy and Brazil will be entering the seventh week of competition on different outlooks – as Italy have already qualified to the Final Six as hosts, they aim to finish the Intercontinental Round on top of their Pool, while Brazil aim to catch up to earn a spot in the Final Six.
Italy started the World League season with six wins in a row – two of them against Brazil – but are now behind Iran with six wins and four losses. In their last four matches, coach Mauro Berruto allowed his second team to get some playing time. This time, coach Berruto will be fielding in his first team against the Brazilians. The Italians have been training since Wednesday in Cavalese, Trento, for the much-anticipated matches against Brazil.
Brazil need two wins over Italy. Despite the disappointing start, the South Americans still have a chance for a spot in the Final Six.
The two teams will arrive in Milan on Friday morning for the second match and will stay at the Royal Garden Hotel near the venue. On Saturday and Sunday, they will have their training sessions and eventually will play the second match at 17:00 local time.
