Bulgaria coach Placi resigns, Naydenov takes over

Camillo Placi coached Bulgaria to the fourth places in the 2013 World League and the 2013 European Championship, as well as to qualification for the 2014 World Championship

Sofia, Bulgaria, July 1, 2014 - Camillo Placi, the Italian head coach of the Bulgarian men’s national team, has resigned, citing “personal reasons” for his decision. Assistant coach Nayden Naydenov will replace Placi for the rest of Bulgaria's 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League campaign.

Camillo Placi’s resignation comes after Bulgaria's nine defeats in ten World League Pool B matches, less than two months before the start of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Poland, and about fourteen months before Bulgaria hosts the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men.

The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation has announced that a new head coach will be appointed soon and expressed its gratitude for the many years of hard work that Placi has put in both as an assistant coach and as head coach of the Bulgarian national team.

Camillo Placi also worked as assistant to the previous three head coaches of the squad: Silvano Prandi, Radostin Stoytchev and Nayden Naydenov.

Naydenov, who is taking over again at least temporarily, led the Bulgarians to the fourth place in the 2012 London Olympics. He is also the man behind Marek Union-Ivkoni Dupnitsa’s success, winning three consecutive titles in Bulgaria’s domestic Superliga.
