The players and coaching staff of the Italian national team pose with members of the San Patrignano volleyball team

Bologna, Italy, July 1, 2014 - Italy, who take on Brazil in FIVB Volleyball World League Intercontinental Round Pool A on Thursday, stopped in San Patrignano, a non-profit foundation which aims "to freely offer goods, services and initiatives in favour of people who are marginalised and addicted to drugs."

Ahead of the much anticipated showdown with triple world champions Brazil, captain Emanuele Birarelli and the Italy team, who were joined by members of the coaching staff, spent a few hours with San Patrignano's guests, young boys and girls who are in the process of recovering from drug addiction.

For the Italian team, it was an opportunity to meet people who are devoting their lives to social work and to learn about their work. San Patrignano provides an opportunity for hundreds of yourg people every year to find a way back into society.

The Azzurri were shown videos explaining the organisation's core mission and philosophy and were introduced to the members of the San Patrignano volleyball team and their coach. They then shared dinner with the community's guests in a hall where hundreds of meals are served daily.

San Patrignano has also become known for hosting an annual international horse riding show, starring Olympic riders and horses. More information about the organisation is available from their website.
