France one step away from World League Group 2 Final Four

France hitter Kevin Le Roux has high hopes for his team in this year's World League

Mouilleron-le-Captif, France, June 26, 2014 - Leaders France take on Argentina in the last week of action in FIVB Volleyball World League pool D needing only one victory from two games to advance to the Group 2 Final Four in Sydney, Australia.

The first match will take place on Friday at Mouilleron-le-Captif, two days before the two teams meet again in Paris. Pool leaders France, who have won nine of their ten matches so far, only need one victory from their double encounter with Argentina to advance to the next round, which is the Group 2 Final Four tournament in Sydney, Australia, from July 11-13. The Final Four winner will progress to the World League Final Six in Florence, Italy.

"We will do everything to qualify on Friday", said Kevin Le Roux. "And we know that it will be simpler for us if we win the first game." The France hitter, who recovered from an abdominal injury and did not play in Japan last weekend, also said that he is "not surprised" by his team’s impressive record so far: "Some may be surprised by our good results. But I was confident. It does not surprise me. We have a new group, with many young players. And we all get along great. We are always there to help our teammates."

The squad directed by Laurent Tillie are optimistic about their chances against Argentina, after winning both games away to their opponents in Mendoza last month. But they are taking things one step at a time. "It’s complicated to keep our performance level high during the entire competition," said Le Roux, who acknowledged that the defeat against Germany on June 13 was a wake-up call for Les Bleus. "Now, our goal is to win against Argentina in order to go to Australia. And then, we will think about Florence. But I really think that we can make it."
