Heynen brings in new faces for Germany's meeting with France in World League

Germany will need to be at their best if they want to enjoy more celebrations, against France

Frankfurt, Germany, June 5, 2014 – Germany coach Vital Heynen has opted to make changes to his squad ahead of his side’s clash against France in the FIVB Volleyball World League.

So far Heynen is working with a squad of 14 which will be cut to 12 for the two matches, but after a long return trip of almost 24 hours from Argentina the coach has brought back captain Jochen Schoeps, Jan Zimmermann, Tom Straw Bach, Marcus Bohme, Tim Broshog, and Ferdinand Tille, while Sebastian Kuehner, Marvin Prolingheuer, Dirk Westphal and Jaromir Zach Rich have been rested.

Germany play France in the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart on Saturday 7 June and Sunday 8 June.

“The trip to Argentina was not easy,” Heynen said. “We played the final game at 1 o’clock at night local time (06.00 Clock German time) and after only three hours of sleep we had to begin our 24-hour journey. We are certainly not fresh.

Speaking about France, Heynan said, "This is a technically strong team with good players. I still have no idea how we will win, but of course we want to. We had two games against Japan and won surprisingly in Argentina. We want to carry on the surprises against France.”

Germany will need to recover quickly if they are to challenge a France team that is flush with confidence after four wins from four. That said they have enjoyed three victories from four.

“I am very satisfied with the two 3-0 victories against Japan, mainly because we had to make changes to the team and now all the players have shown what they can,” France coach Laurent Tillie said.

“We travel to Stuttgart to play Germany who are the toughest opponent in our group, a team with a strong serve and a clear strategy.”
