Travica: 'Serbia changed their line-up, they played well'

Novi Sad, Serbia, July 5, 2013 – Serbia beat Italy 3-1 (28-26, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19) the their second match of the last weekend in the 2013 FIVB World League Pool B on Sunday.

Despite their win, Serbia is officially out of the FIVB World League finals, allowing coach Kolakovic to shuffle the squad a little bit. Starovic got the chance to play instead of Atanasijevic on the opposite side, Petric got introduced to change a weary Nikola Kovacevic, and young Jovovic substituted the experienced Vlado Petkovic on the setter position.

“Today, when we didn`t have pressure of the final outcome, I let some of the younger guys play,” Kolakovic said. “They performed well and I am extremely happy with this victory. In the end, to be honest, I think that Italy underestimated us a little bit in this match”

“I am very happy especially for this wonderful crowd,” said Dragan Stankovic, Serbia’a team captain. “We owed them this victory. As for the match, like I said yesterday, we did our best to finish this season with the win and we made it.”

Ivan Zaytsev of Italy topped the scorers’ chart with 19 points, while Sasa Starovic of Serbia scored 18 for the losing team.

“We had some physical problems in this match, some of the players could hardly finish the match standing,” said Italy’s coach Mauro Berruto. “Today Serbian players were very good and I congratulate them. I am not sure if we will win the pool in the end, but I am proud of my team.”

“We were tired, that was obvious,” said Italy’s setter Dragan Travica. “Also, we were nervous because we were under pressure. Serbia changed their line-up, they played well and we could not match them today.”
