Surprise achievement makes Savani very happy

Italy has now won 10 of their previous 15 World League matches against Argentina

Mar del Plata, Argentina, July 19, 2013 - With a 3-1 victory against home team Argentina in the final pool match, captain Cristian Savani has led Italy into the World League final-four for the first time since 2004.

"I'm very happy, because we acheived this result with a new group that after the [2012] Olympic Games changed a lot. Many of the players in this team wouldn't have thought we could achieve this.

"Now we play against Russia [in the semifinal], the same team that we met in the Intercontinental round. They won one match and we won the other one.

"We have to focus only on our attitude, and think what we can do against Russia, who will be a very tough opponent. Watching the other matches [in this tournament], we have not seen good volleyball, but who wins is the team who believes more."

Although disappointed with defeat and missing out on the final-four on home soil, Argentina coach Javier Weber was happy to concentrate on the positives for his team.

"We need to make less errors if we want to defeat big teams like Italy.

"I think the experience is important for us and I am satisfied with the players' performances because we had good moments, even playing without [Facundo] Conte, but we have to keep on working on our game and improving."

Pablo Crer agreed with his coach about Argentina's overall performance at the 2013 World League Finals.

"We didn't play well and lost our matches, but we have to learn a lot and keep on training to correct the mistakes for future tournaments."
