It was a match with two faces: Bulgaria coach

Thank you, Sokolov, the crowd said. Thank you, supporters, coaches and players said

Varna, Bulgaria, July 13, 2013 – Bulgaria showed they merit their spot in the FIVB World League Finals and secured second place in Pool A by defeating Poland on Saturday 3-2 (20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 19-17).

“What can I say, it was a match with two faces,” said Camilo Placi, head coach of Bulgaria. “The first two sets were ugly for us. Before the game had started, I was hoping this would not happen. We have already learned that Brazil has won their match against USA and that we have qualified. It seemed that these first two sets we have played with our heads already in Argentina. After that, we looked each other in the eyes and understood we can make more. Like in all stories with a happy end and it happened. I want to thank the whole team including all players that didn't play, but have trained with us. They helped a lot. I want to thank also to all in the medical, technical and organising staff, the team manager as well. I only had the luck to be the guide of this group.

“It was a hard match,” said Bulgaria’s captain Todor Aleksiev. “We already knew we has qualified for Argentina, and it was hard for us. I am glad we won for our great support. I hope we will do something in the Final round. I don't want to speak of chances, but we are going there to play good volleyball like what we have been doing through the whole League. We will see what we can do."

Having two teams with strong will for the victory was the best that could happen in the Palace of Culture and Sports, and the tiebreak provided a marvelous game of volleyball for the crowd in the Palace of Culture and Sports.

“Congratulations to the Bulgarian team,” said Poland’s coach Andrea Anastasi. “Tonight we tried to do our best, but we were playing knowing it is for nothing. We tried to play for all those people in Poland who are watching the game. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. We want to thank Bulgaria for showing us where our problems are.

“Congratulations to Bulgaria,” said Poland’s captain Marcin Mozdzonek. “ I and all my teammates wish them all the best in the Final 6 in Argentina.”
