Press release

USA's Anderson: 'We have no chances to qualify to the Finals, but we’ll play with proud for our country.'

Eder Carbonera talks during press conference

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 13, 2013 – Aside from the American’s elimination in the FIVB World League, Brazilian head coach Bernardo Rezende praised the United States’ team after Saturday’s 3-1 victory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“Today’s victory was really important”, Rezende said. “USA will be a really strong team on this Olympic cycle.”

The Brazilian head coach was satisfied with his team performance after making some changes for this week. Leandro Vissotto, Bruno Rezende and Dante Amaral were preserved for the Finals and gave an opportunity to other players.

“It was good to see that the players which had an opportunity today had a good performance,” Rezende said.

Today’s Brazilian captain, middle-blocker Eder Carbonera said that the team still has to improve for the Finals.

”The team started nervous, anxious because of the substitutions,” Carbonera said. “We gave a lot in the beginning, but our game wasn’t so intelligent as it should. We had two good sets, but we couldn’t keep the rhythm in the third. We have to change it for the Finals.”

American head coach John Spearow admitted Brazil had a better performance today.

“Our receiving and defending skills were below our expectations in the first two sets,” he said. “I’m happy with the performance of the players that came from the bench. But Brazil played in a higher level and today is a better team than ours.”

American captain Matthew Anderson guaranteed that his team will be motivated for Sunday’s match against Brazil, despite Saturday’s loss.

“If you start behind in the score against Brazil, it is really difficult to get back to the match,” he said. “We have no chances to qualify to the Finals, but we’ll play with proud for our country. Our motivation is always make a good match.”
