Guimarães, Portugal, July 7, 2013 – Korea beat Portugal on Sunday 3-1 (34-32, 25-23, 21-25, 28-26) securing third place in Pool C and the participation in the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League, while Portugal – ranked 5th – will have to play the qualification playoffs in order to decide their maintenance in the competition.

“Congratulations to Korea,” said Portugals’ coach Flavio Gulinelli. “We played well in every sets, we built good advantages and afterwards we lost them. Now all we have to wait is for what the 2014 World League playoff have reserved for us."

“I have nothing to say about the match,” said Portugal’s captain Joao Jose. “If the sets ended at 21, in accordance to what the new rules want to approve, we would win the match. I just have to say congratulations to Korea for the victory.”

“The match went very well for us,” said Korea’s coach Ki-Won Park. “I noticed Portugal had 3 or 4 players that were physically conditioned and tried to take advantage of that. I am very happy that we secured the participation in the next year edition of the World League.”

“We are very pleased that we won and secured the participation in the 2014 World League,” said Korea’s captain Lee Sun-Kyu “We deserved to win since we prepared very well for this second match.”
