Serbians relieved after first win at home

Serbians players and coaches were satisfied in the mixed zone after their victory over Germany.

Igor Kolakovic, head coach of Serbia: “It was a very difficult match. After yesterday’s match, we had to do our best to win this game. We lost the first set and that could have killed us in this match, but fortunately we found enough strength to rise and overcome all the problems we faced with injuries and the loss of morale. I congratulate my guys on a splendid effort. The upcoming matches with Italy will be very tough to win, but I can promise that we will leave our hearts on the court in the City of Novi Sad."

Vital Heynen, head coach of Germany: “We were fighting back from very difficult situations in this match, being down (4-8) and (17-21) in sets, for example. But we were patient and we won a point. I think that a victory and loss of 2-3 from Belgrade could be called a nice weekend for us."

Dragan Stankovic, team captain of Serbia: “This was a very tough match. But, unlike yesterday, we committed fewer errors and what is more important, we played with all our hearts. I am happy with this victory and I hope we can continue in the same way next weekend."

Jochen Schops, team captain of Germany: “It was a very strange match with a lot of ups and downs for both teams. Today we were not so steady in our game, but in the end we made a good match."

Aleksandar Atanasijevic, Serbian opposite: “I am glad that we won today. We owe a debt to our wonderful fans. I hope next weekend in Novi Sad it will be much easier. I know that spectators there will fill the stands and help us like they always do."
