Germany coach Vital Heynen: "We played our best game in this year's World League"

Igor Kolakovic, head coach of Serbia, in the mixed zone in Belgrade

In the mixed zone, Serbian head coach Igor Kolakovic was very disappointed, while German head coach Vital Heynen was pleased.

Igor Kolakovic, head coach of Serbia: “We opened the match very badly, and frankly I cannot explain it. We did not have morale, we were weak, out of focus, and Germany played an excellent match, especially in block and service. I think the first two sets were decisive. Tomorrow is a new day, and we must try to improve our level of play."

Vital Heynen, head coach of Germany: “I have to say that we played our best game in this year's World League. We limited our mistakes, and that was very difficult for Serbia to match. We pushed them to the maximum. This weekend started well, and it can only get better tomorrow."

Dragan Stankovic, team captain of Serbia: “We wanted to perform well in front of our home fans, but we fell under the pressure. Some of the substitutes stepped up and helped us a lot, but it wasn’t sufficient. Germany was very organized on the court today, and they deserved this victory."

Jochen Schops, team captain of Germany: “I think this was one of our better matches this year. We were stable, firm, committed few mistakes and that was the difference. Tomorrow it will be much more difficult because Serbia will certainly adjust their game."
