Germany's coach: 'The serve-passing game made the difference'

German setter Lukas Kampa celebrates the first victory in World League 2013.

Bremen, Germany, June 22, 2013 – Germany found its first victory in the 2013 FIVB World League in a dominating match against Cuba, 3-0.

“We played a very good game,” said German coach Vital Heynen. “We had an effective serve and we were really stop their attack. And on our site we had not so many problems in passing. The serve-passing game made the difference.”

“We played better our tactics than the Cubans,” said German captain Jochen Schöps. “Especially with our float serves they have a lot of problems. Than we can count on our block and defense.”

The Cuban team took their first advantage of the second set, but they couldn't keep their momentum. In the third set, German’s attack and reception was too constant for the Cubans, who couldn't get themselves in the game.

“I think it was a bad game from the whole team,” Cuban coach Orlando Samuels. “We weren’t mentally in the game today. I don´t know how we can solve this problem tomorrow, but we will do our best. Germany was the better team and we have to accept this today.”

“We are not satisfied with our performance,” Cuban captain Lian Sem Estrada Joa. “We have respect for the German team because they played very well and deserved the win. We have a very young team, because of the changes in the past and now we have to learn every game. But tomorrow is a new day and a new chance to win.”

Germany and Cuba meet again Sunday at Bremen Area for the last match of week four’s World League.
