Laurent Tillie: "It was a mental victory"

Julien Lyneel spike for France

Rouen, France, June 21, 2013--France earned its first World League victory by defeating Poland 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11).

France recovered after dropping the second and third sets. Laurent Tillie, France's head coach: "So far, we had some good games, but we have not finished. Tonight, my team was able to get some crucial points in money time. It was a mental victory. In the fourth set, Benjamin Toniutti was a 'man of fire'. He led the way to the victory. We needed this win, but I am already focused on Sunday night."

France needed a furious comeback in the fourth set to remain in the match. Benjamin Toniutti, France's captain: "In the fourth set, Poland led 16-11, but we stayed calm and focused. We knew we had a chance. This win is kind of a follow-up to what we have done these last seven weeks, in training and in competition. So far, we were not very successful. But hard work pays off."

Poland had momentum going into the fourth set. Marcin Mozdzonek, Poland's captain: "France deserved to win tonight, because they played until the end. We wasted too many opportunities in the fourth set. We had a lack of concentration. It is a big disapointment."

Poland won the World League last year. Andrea Anastasi, Poland's head coach: "My team is not as good as it was last season. I knew it. They are not in a good condition, not only physically. We have to work out."
