Week three winners stay strong at World League

Japan players celebrate after the match against Finland on Saturday

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 15, 2013 – Japan, Russia, Canada, Brazil and USA emerged victorious at the FIVB World League on Saturday during the third week of matches for the tournament.

All of Saturday’s winners, except Japan who faced Finland for the first time, repeated their glory from Friday.

In Gary Sato’s first home game as coach of Japan, the American had the full support of the crowd behind him at Komaki Park Arena, cheering him and his team on to a tough 3–1 win (25–17, 25–18, 24–26, 25–18) against Finland in the FIVB World League.

Russia stayed on top of Pool B in the FIVB World League on Saturday by picking up a 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8) victory over Serbia. The top scorers were Pavlov Nikolay, who recorded 22 points for the home side, and Atanasijevic Aleksandar, who scored 15 points for the visiting team.

Canada took command over against Korea in night two on Saturday of FIVB World League men's volleyball at the Hershey Centre 25-23,25-20,25-20. The win brings Canada to four wins and two losses, and Korea now has four losses and two wins in 2013 World League matches.

Brazil remains on top of Pool A with 11 points and a 4-0 record, and Argentina is still with one victory, the one earned in the US in its debut. The 3-0 win for Brazil (25-21, 27-25, 25-13) leaves Brazil undefeated in this year’s World League.

USA picked up their third win of the tournament, but had to fight in a 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 30-28, 15-9) win over France at the Tulsa Convention Center Arena.

Week three will wrap up on Sunday with two more matches: Japan v Finland and Italy v Cuba.
