Brazil's coach has 'great expectations for this World League'

All players and coaches in the Press Conference said the key was in both teams' serving

San Martín, Argentina, June 14, 2013 –  Brazil took one more step in its undefeated streak at the FIVB World League, in a 3-0 win against Argentina on Friday.

We have great expectations for this World League, after the two victories in Poland and the one tonight,” said Brazil’s head coach Bernardo Rezende. “Both teams are renewed and for us this is a very important chance to try new players, as it is for Argentina, as they are already qualified for the Finals. That, too, is our goal.”

The three set victory, (20-25, 21-25 and 15-25), was facilitated by Brazil’s strong serves.

“First of all, I want to congratulate Brazil for the victory,” said Argentina’s captain Luciano De Cecco “We had many trouble today with the serving, not only our serve wasn’t good but besides Brazil hurt us a lot with his serving. That kept us from displaying our game. We hope to improve tomorrow.”

Argentina showed signs of defeat by the third set and fell behind to 10-19, giving Brazil enough edge to be cool towards the victory.

“We did what we always do: serve well and have a good overall performance. Argentina wasn’t in their best night. We had a pretty smooth victory,” said Brazil’s captain Bruno Rezende.

“I think Argentina is trying to find its game, because they are already in Mar del Plata,” said Brazilian player William Arjona. “We played the way we want and that resulted in a very good output. It was important to win 3-0 and we want to improve even more for tomorrow.”

Argentina and Brazil play Match 36 on Saturday, June 15 instead of Sunday June 16 as previously announced at the new time of 23:30 GMT (20:30 local time), where Argentina will try to redeem itself for a comeback.

“We made a lot of mistakes,” said Argentina’s Head Coach Javier Weber. “We must be stronger in the middle of the net. We failed a lot in receiving and that was our main problem. At the same time, I think Nicolás (Uriarte) played well and we could play at similar levels than Brazil, but they were much more effective.”

“Our serve wasn’t good tonight. We didn’t play at all like we did in US and, on the other hand, they served very well. Now we’re just thinking on doing better tomorrow,” said Argentina’s player Nicolás Uriarte.
