Sammelvuo applauds Korean team's efforts in five-set match

Korea coach Park Ki-Won and Finland coach Tuomas Sammelvuo shake hands at the press conference

Suwon, Korea, June 9, 2013 - Finland barely escaped but still prevailed a gripping five-set match against Korea in the second round of play in Pool C of the FIVB World League on Sunday.

Finland captain Antti Siltala: "We knew it would be a hard game today. Korea worked very hard and their service was good. Today's game was quite difficult but I am happy to finish the match well."

Finland coach Tuomas Sammelvuo: "It was a good match. We were beaten in the first set by Korea but we tried to concentrate on the game and believed in each other. I am happy that we won and got five points this weekend. I would like to give the Korean team a big applause because they never gave up the entire match today, even when they were having a hard time in reception and defence. Also, I would like to thank you all for your warm hospitality."

Korea captain Lee Sun-Kyu: "Our goal for this week was to have a one-win and one-loss card against Finland. I thought we could have won today's match but we couldn't. The players and I have felt a sense of frustration at how the match ended today. Thank God, we (still) got one point today."

Korea player Jeon Kwang-In: "It was a pity we lost. We started off in a good mood by winning the first set but I think we did not finish the match properly. Our players did not have good reception today and Finland's services were so fast which disabled us to receive and set-up our defence properly."

Korea coach Park Ki-Won: "We tried to put on an enjoyable match today. Although our players did not show their best, I think we have to concentrate more to get over the psychological and mental pressures. To be successful in the World League, we have to be accurate on both sides of our offence. I am also concerned about our service-reception and our players' strengths. I will let my players rest first for the next matches in the World League."
