Finland overpower Korea in straight sets

Finland celebrate by beating Korea in straight sets

Suwon, Korea, June 8, 2013 - Finland end Korea's efforts of keeping its winning streak by finishing off strong in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) in Pool C of the FIVB World League at the the Suwon Indoor Gym on Saturday.

Korea struggled on crucial errors committed in each set allowing Finland to capitalise on this weakness of Korea. Finland's attacking overwhelmed Korea but more obviously, outplayed them on defence putting on a strong wall at the net.

Finland's setter Mikko Esko creatively called the plays and steered his team-mates to utilise its height advantage on the attack. Mikko Oivanen scored 14 points on attacks out of his 15-point output. Urpo Sivula shared the top scoring category with Mikko Oivanen.

On defence, Matti Oivanen made his presence felt at the net by blocking five Korean attacks out of Finland's 14 block points.

With Finland's surge on attack and block, Korea's Jeon Kwang-In's performance was not at par with his previous performance against Japan as he struggled with the tough block waiting for him on the other side of the net.

Jeon only made 11 spikes brining down his attack efficiency to 47%. Likewise, Korea's quick attacks did not work out leaving the Korean offence helpless in crucial parts of the match. Shin Yung-Suk and Lee Sun-Kyu were the regular casualties of the towering deflecting stance of Finland.
