Italy, Germany analyze World League match

Interview after the match in the mixed zone

Modena, Italy, June 7, 2013 – Italy and Germany faced off at the 2013 FIVB World League on Friday, in a match dominated by Italy 3-0, (25-15, 25-23, 25-21).

“We’ve played well,” said Italy’s coach Mauro Berruto. “It’s too early to think we can play at our best, however in the first set we showed our potential. We have been very good in attack and blocks.”

While Friday’s match was Germany’s premier to the World League this year, Italy had some practice, coming away from matches against France last weekend.

“After the two losses against France, we have had a good start in the World League. Our team has changed a lot, but we did good on a technical level and we won,” said Italy’s captain Cristian Savani.

Germany’s coach Vital Heynen expressed disappointment in the game, which exposed some of the weakness of his team.

“Italy was an impossible nut to crack. We are far too inexperienced,” Heynen said. “We only started to play from the second set. Italy has always been in control of the match.”

“We started off badly, we have made many mistakes and we were tense,” said Germany’s spiker Denys Kaliberda. “If we want to win against teams as strong as Italy we’ll have to play better.”
