Serbia ready to shine in Havana

Serbia, reigning European Champions, are looking to better their ninth place finish at last year's edition of the World League

Havana, Cuba, June 6, 2013 – The Serbia national team arrived in Havana, Cuba on Wednesday ahead of their first match of the 2013 World League against the host team. The sun may not have been shining, but the Serbia team know they can count on the warmth of the locals in volleyball friendly Cuba.

Serbia will face Cuba on June 7, at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in Havana in their first pool B match.  A press conference will be held prior to the match at the Melia Habana Hotel. On Thursday morning the Serbia team began their training session at the Coliseum with the Cuban team conducting their training session later in the day.

The reigning European Champions, Serbia recently announced their roster in Belgradd: (1) Nikola Kovacevic; (2) Uros Kovacevic; (3) Marko Ivovic; (5) Vlado Petkovic; (7) Dragan Stankovic (C); (14) Aleksandar Atanasijevic; (15) Sasa Starovic; (16) Aleksa Brdjovic; (18) Marko Podrascanin; (19= Nikola Rosic (libero); (20) Srecko Lisinac; (21) Nemanja Petric.

The team is coached by Igor Kolakovic who replaced Ljuba Travica ahead of the 2006 FIVB World Championship, after assisting him for three years.

Kolakovic began his coaching career with club Buducnost Podgorica in 1997 until 2010, leading them to a silver medal win at the 2009 FIVB World League. He has also led a young squad to bronze in both the World League and World Championship in 2010.
