FIVB - Volleyball World League

Press release

Korea’s two victories is one right step to our goal, says Korea captain Lee Sun-Kyu

Korea coach Park Ki-Won and Japan coach Gary Sato exchange opinions about the match

Hwasung, Korea, June 2, 2013 – Korea posted another 3-1 victory against Japan at the FIVB World League Intercontinental Round on Sunday.

Korea captain Lee Sun-Kyu: “When we started our campaign for the FIVB World League 2013, we had one goal. Now, we are getting closer to our goal because we got off on the right foot with these two victories against Japan. Even if we felt pressured on these matches against our rivals Japan, we were able to overcome it and record two consecutive wins. Today, all 11 players have become one, for the reason that we need to fill the position left by Moon Sung-Min.”

Korea player Lee Min-Gyu: “Today I could concentrate well, just like yesterday because of the relaxed atmosphere. I am very glad to enjoy this victory with my team-mates.”

Korea player Jeon Kwang-In: “I was only thinking of winning this big rival match against Japan while I was playing inside the court. I am also glad to start off with victories after losing previous matches outside Korea.”

Korea coach Park Ki-Won: “We had a really tough match today, encountering the same problems as yesterday. We had some problems on our serve and our players were not mentally prepared when the opposing team puts pressure on us. The players were not good at getting over the pressure from the opposing team. We still have technical problems and we need to improve our skills especially in serve-receive. I think the Goddess of Victory helped us to win today.”

Japan captain Kota Yamamura: “We lost the game again but I think there was an improvement especially in our serve and blocking.”

Japan coach Gary Sato: “I hope Korean player Moon Sung-Min’s injury is not too serious. I was disappointed that we lost the first and second sets. If we got the fourth set, anything can happen in the final set.”
