Korea's aggressiveness in play is key to victory against Japan

Coach Park Ki Won (KOR) about the big difference his team's defence made at the match against Japan

Hwasung, Korea, June 1, 2013 – Korea’s 3-1 upset over rivals Japan showed positive signs to kick off their 2013 FIVB World League campaign on Saturday.

Korea captain Lee Sun-Kyo: “We spent four weeks in training camp. Our passion and spirit today was amazing, we particularly had strong will power for today’s match against Japan.”

Korea player Park Sang-Ha: “We practiced a lot and that got us today’s victory. We’ll try hard to win the next matches too.”

Korea coach Park Ki-Won: “Our team was better in skills than Japan especially in blocking. We concentrated more on defence and that made our team stronger.”

Japan captain Kota Yamamura: “The Korean team showed a good performance on the court. We did not have much time to prepare for this competition, even if we had good players and coaching staff.”

Japan coach Gary Sato: “We made lots of good plays but Korea was so aggressive. The Korean team made a lot of good and powerful spikes. Throughout the match, both teams tried hard to win. I’m proud of the way that we competed against Korea today. Our team is growing and I am looking forward to the rest of our matches.”
