Andrey Voronkov was born in 1967 in Slavsk,
Russia but started his volleyball career in Vilnius and went on to play for the
Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. Later, he played at CSKA Moscow
(1986-1988), SKA Rostov-on-Don (1988-92) and Nizhnevartovsk
"Samotlor" before moving to Turkey in 1995.
He won the European Club Championship twice with Erdemirspor and made his debut
for Russia at the age of 31, playing 26 times for his country.
In 2006, Voronkov joined the coaching staff of Dinamo-Yantar and was Russia’s
junior team coach at the European and World Championships. At club level, he
coached Kuzbass and Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, leading them to two Cup of Russia
triumphs (2010, 2011) before clinching the European title earlier this year.
