FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD LEAGUE
MEDIA GUIDE 2013
France, finished seventh in last year’s World League and
after failing to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in
London, Laurent Tillie was appointed coach for the next
Olympic quadrennial.
The first step was successful qualification for the 2013
European Championship. Tillie now hopes the World
League, where France will face very strong opposition,
will serve as a good testing ground for their European
campaign. France finished second behind Brazil in the
2006
FIVB World League but have struggled to live up
to the early promise of the past decade.
In 2008, France failed to qualify for the Olympic Games
ended a disappointing 10

in the 2008 World League.
At the 2009 World League, they narrowly missed
making the Final Six after falling at the last hurdle to
Argentina. However, they turned things around and
qualified for the World Championship in Poland, before
winning silver at the European Championships. They
suffered a set-back again in the 2010 World League
when they were pipped to the Finals and eventually
finished 12
th
.
At the World Championship in Italy later
in the year they could only go one better, coming in 11
th
before again finishing 12
th
at the 2011 World League
and seventh at the 2011 European Championship.
