FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD LEAGUE
MEDIA GUIDE 2013
The Canadian Men’s National Volleyball Team has
taken many steps forward since it began international
competition in 1959. Results of note include a fourth
place win at the 1984 Olympic Games, bronze at the
1999
Pan American Games, plus numerous World
Cup and World Championship berths and top-three
NORCECA Championship finishes.
Unfortunately the team narrowly missed out on Olympic
qualification after losing the final of the NORCECA
Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in May
2012
to the US. However, Team Canada was quick to
refocus and set their sights on the 2012 World League
after a five-year absence from the event. The team
finished third in their pool and twelfth overall with a
win over Finland in the last match of pool play, securing
their place in the 2013 World League edition.
Under the guidance of Glenn Hoag, the team is energised
and motivated like never before and is looking to build
on last year’s success. In addition to preparing for the
2013
NORCECA Continental Championship in Langley
(
British Columbia) they are also seeking qualification to
the 2014 World Championship. Also in their sights is the
2015
Pan Am Games in Toronto with the ultimate goal of
competing at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
COACH
Glenn Hoag has coached the men’s
national team since 2006. His
team narrowly missed qualifying
for the 2012 Olympics after losing
the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier
final to the USA. Hoag has coached
Paris Volley of France, Ach Volley Bled of Slovenia and
was assistant coach for France at the 2004 Olympic
Games where they finished ninth. He also coaches Club
Arkas Spor in Izmir (Turkey), leading them to a fourth
place finish at the 2011 CEV Champions League and
second place in Turkey’s volleyball league. In 2012,
the squad reached round six of the CEV Champions
League, finishing 5
th
overall and also won the Turkish
Professional League title that year.
