FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD LEAGUE
MEDIA GUIDE 2013
The national team of Serbia has participated in 15
editions of the World League, with an overall record
of 139 wins and 85 losses. In all, the team has won
seven medals – four silver (2003, 2005, 2008, 2009)
and three bronze (2002, 2004, 2010).
Along with the medals, Serbian players have won 13
individual awards, with Ivan Miljkovic being the only
player in the history of the competition to have won
four MVP titles (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005). Miljkovic
was also twice the best scorer (2008, 2009) and on
one occasion the best server (2005). Goran Vujevic was
the best server in 2000, Andrija Geric the best server
and the best blocker in 2003, Marko Samardzic the best
libero in 2005, Marko Podrascanin the best blocker in
2008,
and Nikola Grbic the best setter in 2009.
As reigning European Champions, Serbia will play
their 16
th
season in this prestigious competition. The
new generation of Serbian players will do their best to
qualify for the Final Tournament for the first time since
2010,
when they won a bronze medal.
COACH
Igor Kolakovic replaced Ljuba
Travica as coach of the Serbia
men’s national team ahead of the
2006
FIVB World Championship,
after assisting him for three
years. Kolakovic coaching club
Buducnost Podgorica from 1997 until 2010, leading
them to a silver medal win at the 2009 FIVB World
League. He has also led a young squad to bronze in
both the World League and World Championship in
2010.
He will have plenty of confidence in his team
after they proved their mettle by winning the European
Championships last year.
