BEST SCORER
Bulgaria may not have been able to pick up a
medal on home turf, but in Todor Aleksiev they
had a superb attacking force. Aleksiev was the
top scorer in the Finals with 65 points, including
an impressive 11 blocks and three service aces.
Aleksiev came up big in Bulgaria’s first game
of the Finals, scoring 23 points, including
four of his team’s 17 blocks against Germany.
Bulgaria may have lost all their other games in
the Finals, but Aleksiev was top scorer or joint
top scorer in every game. The 29-year-old from
Plovdiv has played in Bulgaria, Italy and Turkey,
and is currently with Gazprom – Ugra Surgut
in Russia.
