Bartosz Kurek, the top scorer in last year’s
competition, showed his strengths when it
mattered in this year’s tournament. He was
frequently Poland’s top scorer, putting pressure
on opposing teams with his powerful spikes
and serves. Coach Andrea Anastasi knows
he has a star player, but he’s not going to let
it show too much. “Kurek is a good player,”
Anastasi told the media. “He can be one of the
best in the world if he trains hard.” Kurek, of
course, is “one of the best in the world” now;
the fact that Anastasi can see greater potential
in an already great player is mouth-watering
news for both Poland and volleyball.
