INTERCONTINENTAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
I’m proud of my team,” Finnish captain Tuomas
Sammelvuo stated after the Finns’ win over
Poland. “We really needed this win against a
great team. We played with a great attitude. Our
attacking was clever and we covered a lot of balls
with great play from our opposite and setter.”
The top three scorers in the competition in
Week 1 were all from Pool B: Wallace de Souza
of Brazil and Poland’s Zbigniew Bartman (both
with 69 points), and Gavin Schmitt of Canada
with 65. Schmitt was the top scorer in a single
match in the opening week of the World League
with 33 points against Brazil, who had to play
without injured star wing-spikers Giba and
Murilo Endres.
